1. TESOL Certificate Program (F1 / Non
F1)
: 18 hours of classroom instruction per week, 12 weeks
per session
This course is for the TESOL
(Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages). All students must
be a high school graduate, but the GLI strongly recommends a Bachelor¡¯s
degree. Also all students will be accepted by a placement test, an
overall TOEFL score of 550 or a completed ESL Master¡¯s Program.
This includes GLI's 18 hours of classroom
instructions per week. It is a required course which includes
past/current methods in language teaching, teaching receptive skills
(reading and listening), teaching productive skills (writing and
speaking), classroom management, educational technology, language study
techniques, pronunciation, reaching materials, planning lessons, teaching
vocabulary, communicative activities, cultural issues in language and
testing.
This program is designed for an English teacher
or learning a higher level of English. This course takes 2 to 4 sessions
(24~48 weeks) to complete. This is a minimum of 432 total hours of class
time and takes approximately 1 year to complete.
2. TESOL Master Certificate Program
(F1/Non F1)
: 18 hours
of classroom instruction per week, 12 weeks per session
This course is for the TESOL
(Teachers of English to Speakers of Other Languages). All students must
have a Bachelor¡¯s degree and teaching experience of at least 3 years.
Also all students will be accepted by a placement test, an overall TOEFL
score of 550 or a completed TESOL Certificate Program. This includes
GLI's 18 hours of classroom instructions per week.
It is a required course which
includes Approaches to Teaching English language learners, Curriculum and
assessment in TESOL, Second Language Acquisition, Teaching Composition in
the Secondary School, and other classes related to teaching English.
TESOL prepares students to teach English as a second or foreign language
in a variety of contexts, including K-12 schools, colleges and
universities in the U.S.
and abroad, and adult programs in North America, Europe, Japan, China,
and the Middle East. The TESOL program
offers a strong foundation in linguistics and emphasizes pedagogy that
reflects cultural sensitivity and awareness of the language and cultural
customs of speakers of foreign languages.
This master¡¯s degree program is
intended for professionals from a variety of backgrounds and with varied
career interests. Some of our candidates are interested in teaching positions
not requiring state certification overseas or in business settings,
community agencies, college and university English language institutes,
parochial or other private elementary and secondary schools.
Others are interested in
teaching in a public school system in need state certification. Still
others are from abroad and wish to develop their expertise in teaching
English in their native country.
The Master Certificate Program addresses all of
these needs. This course takes 5 sessions (60 weeks) to complete. This is
a total of 1080 hours of class time and takes approximately 18 months to
complete.
